Course Description

The PA AHEC 100-hour training program is designed to provide the core competencies needed for work in community-based and inpatient settings. Community health workers are fundamental in the connections between communities and healthcare agencies. They provide guidance and social assistance to community residents, advocate for their health and provide referrals and follow-up services. This course is being held virtually via Zoom. Classes will take place on Mondays and Friday from 9:00am - 1:00pm and begin Monday, January 27, 2025 and run for 10 weeks (pending holidays and weather). Last day of the course will be April 4, 2025. Through this course you’ll learn skills like motivational interviewing, communication, care coordination, ethics and preventative care, as well as hear from visiting presenters. Special focus on rural health, including oral health. Obtain certification in: • Mental Health First Aid • CPR/First Aid and AED • Mandated Reporter IMPORTANT INFO: • Course registration is a 2-step process. Apply + Register. Upon review you will be contacted via email to complete the CHW Course Registration Form. • If taking this course to work towards CCHW, please be aware those seeking this certification must be 18 and have a GED or high school diploma for CHW certification in PA. • On the booking page, please check whether you or your organization will be invoiced for the course tuition of $1,500.
